JLR are the initials of a young man named Jorge Luis Ramirez. Although he goes by the name Jorge in real life, for shortness on the internet, he commonly uses his initials, “JLR”. Born and raised in El Paso, Texas in the United States, Jorge gained an interest in computer technology early on. By the time middle school came around, Jorge was entering science fairs with Tic Tac Toe Artificial Intelligence exercises and robotic experiments using micro servos and the programming language BASIC. The fascination of technology grew within Jorge and as he entered the later years of middle school, his interests began taking him towards web design, web scripting, server management, and computer programming. He gained basic to moderate knowledge in various fields and computer languages including Linux remote administration, HTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript, Visual Basic, Pascal (Delphi Compiler), and some C. Extra curricular activities during high school included founder of the local chess club, webmaster for the school’s website, and member of National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America.
In the year 2001, Jorge relocated to San Antonio, Texas and finished up his last two years of high school at his new home. During these last two years, Jorge continued his commitment to the Future Business Leaders of America and served as President for the local chapter. As his Senior year approached, he had completed the first half of his CCNA certification, but unknown to many including himself, his interests began to change. As the final years of high school rolled out, Jorge began to take more of an interest in business development and general marketing including photography and videography. This ideology change marked an important fork in the road for Jorge’s later decisions in college. Jorge graduated high school in the top 15%, with National Honor Society recognition, Texas Scholar Recognition, and included in the Who’s Who Among Americas High Schools for three consecutive years in a row.
Jorge fell in love with San Antonio and thus decided to attend Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. As a small liberal-arts private university, Trinity University’s full tuition is at about $30,000 per year. With an intimidating knowledge of knowing that he would be graduating with close to $80,000 in loans by the time he graduated; from the first day, he embarked with plans to double major in Business Administration and Communication. He became involved in many student organizations including the Association of Student Representatives, First Year Leadership Council, Latino Exchange, Trinity University Volunteer Action Committee, and the campus television station. He served in many management and leadership positions such as a committee head for Latino Exchange, Production Manager and later on Director of Business Management for the campus television station and as an Executive Producer for a department sponsored television show co-hosting the Dean of Students at Trinity University.
As the final two years of college education approached, Jorge was accepted into the international professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi – Nu Pi chapter, at Trinity University. This achievement was followed by his decision to study abroad in Monterrey, Mexico for 6 months in hope to regain part of the Spanish that he had lost and hopefully create the necessary contacts to achieve his future goal of operating his own international company. Currently Jorge has registered a sole-proprietorship in Texas under the name JLR Media Group and has worked at several local nightclubs as a photographer, produced videos for San Antonio’s Sports Hall of Fame and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and has developed several websites, information management systems, along with marketing/advertising consulting and representation during negotiations.
As the final year begins, Jorge has a current GPA of 3.7 in the Business Department and a 3.6 in the Communication department. His achievements have made it possible for his inclusion in the University’s Dean’s List for three terms and acceptance into the Mortar Board chapter at Trinity University.
